Feflectcion


In this project, the first thing I learn is the brake temperate and how the heat produced. We did a lot research about the material of brake pad and rotor. From this course I also know we need some creativity to improve something about car which can make the car become more safe and comfortable. This course try to let us to do something really, in our case, the important thing is to choice the right part of project. Such like: water pump, pipe and nozzle. We have to consider about the price and limitation. Moreover, in our project, we also need to learn how to process, this is the hardest part, because we have not touch it before. But we did it, we are so happy. It not only gives us a passing grade, and can also give a chance to us to know the process is not that hard as our think. Process is very useful for us, in the next year; we have to face a bigger project, maybe include process. In the next stage, I want to learn how to use the soild work, it might helpful. Other thing I need to improve is to think the whole project from every angle. In this brake cooling system, we waste about 80 dollars for the part which is useless. Try to reduce unnecessary cost.

Week 16 1.11.2014 Final test 2


This is our second time to do the finial, we seal the water tank again and find the main problem. Simon help us connect the pump is working with 5V, which the voltage of the Ardunio. Jong find a food way to make the pump with 12V, and he also add some other process into the Ardunio, the pulse, which make our project more professional. We set the operation temp 80 at the first, then we heat up the rotor, when the temp reach to 80 the pump start to spray, the temp drops ,however, we did not see any water comes out. So we are sure the problem is the nozzle, so we change other bigger one and increase the working temp to 100. Once the temp to 100, we see the steam comes out from the middle of rotor, the temp drops very fast about 18degrees. We were so happy to see our project works.

Week 15 31.10.2014 Final test 1


Before we do the final test, we already connect to the LCD board to the Ardunio, which can display the temp very well. At the first time, we try to connect the pump, but we failed. Then we ask Simon to help us, he check the board did not find something wrong, later when we show him the code, the problem is come out. Then we can control the pump by the signal from temp sensor. In the afternoon, we start to do the test, we connect everything together and it start to work, but we found the pressure of the pump is quite weak, nearly no water comes out. Other thing is the water tank is leaking which can also reduce the pressure. So the first time we failed.

24.10.2014 Week 14 Nozzle


From last week, we are still looking for the suitable rotor, however, we cannot find one, so we decide to use our own car to do test. First I just remove the caliper and bracket from my car. There is no enough space for us to install the nozzle. Other car we check is jong’s car, after I remove the caliper, we found there is a hole on the dust shield which is very good for install nozzle.







Other thing is we find the right nozzle, we went to Bunnings Warehouse and bought some nozzle which is for gardening, we shows them to Roman, but he said the droplet of water is too big, if we install on, it just like wash the rotor from inside. Two days later, I found a good one from workshop.

17.10.2014 Week 13 Plan B


After the last week grind, this Friday we went to workshop again try to install the bracket and rotor on the test car. But, there is a device against the inner surface of rotor, so we cannot put the rotor on it. Roman help us to grind the rotor again, but they are still touch each other when rotate. 

               


We compare the rotor and the original one, we found the height of original one is very deep. So, we decide to use other one which takes from a Holden car. Unfortunately the diameter of the hole is too small. Then we went to metal workshop to drill 5 different holes with the same distance as original one. However, this time still does not work, because the height of this rotor is deeper. We cannot put the bolt to lock the wheel. Then we went to other workshop to see Range Rover, but there is other problem coming, where should we put the nozzle? We remove the wheel, we found there is a gap allow us to fit in a small nozzle. Roman tell us this is plan B, if we can find a good rotor, it might easier for us to do the test.

10.10.2014 Week 12 Stage 2



                                     
Today is the time to do stage 2 presentation, jong explain how the board works and how to process the ARDUINO. The idea we have is base on the brake fail issue. When the temp is reach to the brake fail, the light on the ARDUINO will turn on one by one, it is depends on the different level of
                                   
temp. In the presentation, we also try to calculate the heat of each brake, however, it is very complex theory, we cannot understand at all, we use a easy way to find the heat, and by using water to bring out the heat from rotor. After that we find the temp of brake fail is about 600 degree.                        

  

Afternoon, we go to work shop to test the rotor and bracket. Because we have to us different size of components, we cannot make sure which one is right. Unfortunately, the rotor is slight bigger than bracket. Roman said he does not want us to waste too much time on this; we only need to show other teacher and student how this system works. So roman helps us to grind the edge of the bracket. 3.10.2014 Middle brake Week 2 (Week 11)


In this week, we have not done too much things, we only find out what is wrong with the board. We bought a new sensor and put it in the right place and make sure it is connect to the positive and negative side of the power. By using tinfoil paper to cover it and heat it up, the LED light will turn on one by one. After that we decide to take off some LED light from the board , because there are about 10 light before which is very hard for us to do the improve and to manage other components.Other thing is we find some rotor for our rotor just in case.
